THE MAKEBOX FOUNDERS STORY

MakeBox & Co was set up in 2019 by husband-and-wife duo, Hannah ( Read-Badlrey) and Brendan Baldrey. After the tragic loss of their son full term at birth, the two wanted to find not only a way to work together but spread positivity through creativity throughout the world. Hannah is the Creative Director, designing, writing, and photographing the projects and Brendan is the business head. "We started our company to bring creative wellness to the world, knowing first-hand how creativity can inspire and heal."

Since launching MakeBox & Co from our living room in 2019 we realised the world truly shared our passion for craft!

2018 - We lost our son and made a decision to create a craft brand focused on quality, modern design and wellbeing at its core.

2019 - Launched the brand as a subscription only service, using Instagram to spread the word. We got so many orders we realised our house was not the place to pack the boxes and quickly moved to a studio. We remember the Royal Mail delivery man's face. Hannah was 6 months pregnant with their rainbow baby. Our first ever box was called "Bee Kind" which was a bee embroidery duo celebrating the birth of our baby girl and remembering our son Bertie Bee.

2020 - The pandemic hit. It was a scary time, but we took comfort in the love and support from our customers, many of which discovered their love of crafting over this time. We launched our rope rainbows, which were to celebrate our rainbow baby and touched a nerve with our customers representing the NHS during the pandemic.

2021 - We opened up the brand to shop purchases (from subscription only) and started working with retailers such as Liberty London. Boots PLC and John Lewis.

2022 - We wanted to make Christmas special this year, I had an idea for the Advent Apron. We had no idea at the time that this would become such an iconic alternative to a Christmas calendar and part of so many peoples Christmas crafting! We also did our very first trade show at Top Drawer.

2023 - We had the joy of working with the Royal Shops including Buckingham palace, being the selected craft retailer to design celebration crafts for the Queen’s birthday Jubilee. Hannah started working with brands working on creative workshops. Including a very noisy Flower Hammering workshop with Bloom and Wild! And the launch of the newly re-opened Monsoon stores.

2024 - We moved packing the boxes ourselves to the beautiful Peak District, within the UK. Keeping hand packing and quality at our core.

2025 - We are now working hard on our next chapter and excited to see MakeBox & Co in the USA, working with Anthropologie and Barnes and Noble into the year!

Our journey continues and we couldn’t have done it without you and your support!
